Until I started asking, I never realized just how many women disliked being called "ma'am." But now I am really wondering the extent. So please help me out: participate in the poll to your right. i'm in the south and while I do NOT like being called Ma'am, it is truly the way southerners are taught to show respect. My mom is from Da Bronx, though, and I rarely use it myself when speaking to others.
